Most of the time, most Canadians favour freer international trade - just look at the general acceptance of 21-year-old NAFTA; the collective yawn when Canada inks a small deal with a place like Costa Rica or Panama; the tepid opposition to a recent huge and wide-ranging agreement with the European Union; or the cautious willingness to consider - despite some lingering concerns - the comprehensive, not-yet-ratified Trans Pacific Partnership.
